To form this shape, glass is selected, cut into uneven strips, fused, and then dropped slowly at high temperatures through a donut-shaped mold. The stretching of the glass, as it falls through the mold, causes the strips of color to form a unique pattern.

The lip that held the glass in position atop the mold is removed, and voila, a bowl.
